Web Review
Quizlet.
As a Language learner, I always found writing notes to be the most annoying and frustrating thing ever. Sometimes, forgetting my notes would really make life a mess. However, after using Quizlet, not taking process became more quick and convenient. Studying simple terms and definitions were a breeze. From the very get go, I found the site to be simple and easy to navigate. There could be auto translation between one language to another. As I progressed through the levels of my Spanish class, this was a tool that I heavily relied on for sure. Constantly, I would travel with Quizlet on my mobile device and/or computer. With Wi-fi connection, I was able to access my notes anytime anywhere at my disposal. Although Quizlet seemed orientated towards the basic translating component of the site, it also promoted the ability for students to recognize spelling errors. Simple syntax and grammar errors could be visible similar to how they are shown in a word document (red and blue line). Not only that, but it would also give a suggestion to what the proper spelling of the word. Hence, it made searching up the correctness easier. I would conclude that Quizlet benefited me as a student because its simplicity created studying technique(s) that I couldn’t find as alternative(s) much in the past.
As a Language teacher, this tool was very convenient to have students practice terms translation and definitions. However, there were setbacks with this site. Not all sites can guarantee 100% satisfaction. Quizlet was no different. It was a good tool, but it needed diversity. Surely, it could have other methods of studying like flashcards or matching, but it cannot captivate the students forever. Hence, the tool had its limitations. As a teacher that focused on languages, I found that this Web tool could only benefit students in studying the basics such as terminology. Anything complex, Quizlet would serve less of use compared to other sites or tools. It is not to say Quizlet is only beneficial to students and not the teacher; However its true use is to study short and quick information like terms. Teacher can rely on Quizlet for convenient study material, but not for total reliance. Day-to-day studying for learners cannot only exist this tool, rather coinciding with other tools as well.
All in all, Quizlet was a useful tool for me as a student, As a teacher, it made me aware that this has limitations. For that, I must have other tools coincide with this simultaneously. Every instructor doesn’t need to be a language teacher to use this tool. As a matter of fact, this can cater to other subjects as well. Again, its limited function might not benefit other competencies, but it does deserve instructors to attempt using this in their lessons.
